Thanks to the financial support of the Alliance of Otsuka and Lundbeck, the SSA awards scholarships up to $2000 for individuals living with schizophrenia in Alberta who are pursuing post-secondary education.

Frequently asked questions

 
  • Anyone who is a resident of Alberta and a Canadian Citizen who is diagnosed with schizophrenia or a related disorder (e.g. schizophrenia, schizophreniform or schizoaffective disorder).

  • Detailed eligibility criteria are outlined in this form. Applicants are encouraged to review the criteria carefully before applying.

  • Submit your application online through this link.

  • The program must be for a credit. SSA’s Yes 2 Me scholarships support a range of educational and vocational paths, including:

    • College or university

    • Trade school or vocational institute

    • High school equivalency programs

    • Accredited online institutions

  • Yes. Applicants must have one or more completed terms in a post-secondary program in Alberta or an Alberta-based online institution.

  • The deadline for the 2026 fall scholarship cycle is August 6 at 4:00 PM.

  • ‍References must not be related to the applicant. Suitable references include:

    • Educators

    • ‍Psychiatrist’s

    • Nurse

  • Scholarship amounts range from $500 to $2,000, depending on your tuition cost and the scholarship selection committee’s decision. 

  • All applicants will be notified by email regarding the outcome of their application within 2 weeks of the deadline date.

  • Funds are not sent directly to recipients. Scholarship funds are disbursed either through an online payment or by mailing a cheque directly to the designated educational institution to be applied toward the recipient’s tuition or related fees.

  • Yes. If you are not selected in the current cycle, you are welcome to reapply in future years, provided you continue to meet the eligibility criteria. If you’ve received a Yes 2 Me scholarship in the past you can also still reapply - we encourage applicants to update their applications to reflect any new achievements, experiences, or goals.

  • If an applicant cannot start their program as planned, please email info@schizophrenia.ab.ca to discuss the situation. If an applicant decides that they no longer want to continue with their schooling, they must complete the refund process with their chosen school and the money must be returned to the SSA.

    • All applications are reviewed by SSA’s Scholarship Selection Committee only and are kept confidential. The committee evaluates applicants based on a combination of factors, which may include:

    • Alignment with eligibility criteria

    • Personal statement and goals

    • Educational or vocational aspirations

    • Demonstrated resilience or lived experience

    • Strength of reference
