SSA's 7th Annual Campaign - See Me, Not My Illness

2018 Annual Campaign Header.png

96% of those living with schizophrenia report that they have experienced discrimination due to their illness. Discrimination in finding employment, finding housing and other aspects of daily living! This discrimination is clearly portrayed in an article published in the Globe and Mail by one of our long standing members, Amy Willans. SSA is very proud to highlight Amy and her article in our 2018 Annual Campaign “See Me, Not My Illness” Amy’s article can be found here:

I'm not crazy, I'm not dangerous, I just need your understanding - The Globe and Mail

Please help SSA reach our campaign goal of $150,000.00 so we can continue providing support to those living with schizophrenia, who like Amy, find themselves coping with the isolating effect of discrimination in their daily lives.

For the past 3 years, SSA has had the honor of presenting Yes 2 Me Scholarships to Alberta students who are living with schizophrenia. These scholarships are generously funded by Otsuka and Lundbeck and we are delighted that they have given us the opportunity this year, to help seven more students who demonstrate hard work and dedication to both their studies and their recovery.

There were many worthy applications and our selection committee had some difficult decisions to make in order to select the final seven. Please join us in congratulating the recipients of the SSA 2018 Yes 2 Me Scholarships! In no particular order, the winners are: Brock Schuler, Lauren Kennedy, Michael Calaresu, Angelika Arroyo, Lindsay Ginter, Zachary VanNiekerk, and Yucen He!
