Educational Speaker: Dr. Lisa Buchy - Schizophrenia and the Brain

This webinar will introduce the structure and function of the human brain, and provide evidence that schizophrenia is brain disorder. Throughout the discussion, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions about schizophrenia, neuroscience and the brain.

Educational Speaker: Lisa Buchy

Dr. Lisa Buchy holds a PhD in Neuroscience from McGill University, where she used brain imaging to gain an understanding of the brain systems that may be affected in people with psychosis. She carried out her postdoctoral research at the University of Calgary, conducting randomized controlled trials that combined brain imaging and cognition training in people with schizophrenia.


DrBuchy has worked as a Clinical Case Manager for the Fraser Health ACCESS mental health team in Surrey and currently works in Medical Affairs. Dr. Buchy earned 25 research grants and awards and has published 40 articles in scientific journals. She has a passion for community outreach and knowledge translation, and has delivered numerous seminars, workshops, and webinars to people with lived experience, caretakers, corporations and the public on the neuroscience of mental health. Dr. Buchy is also a first degree relative of a loved one living with schizophrenia. In her free time, Dr. Buchy enjoys combining her love of the outdoors with her passion for mental health awareness, including participating in the Schizophrenia Society of Alberta’s Open Minds Walk & Run.
