Peer Support Outreach Program
The Peer Support Outreach Program provides people successfully managing schizophrenia the opportunity to share an important first-hand perspective with people having difficulty coping with the illness. The program employs outreach workers (people successfully managing schizophrenia) to provide support to program recipients (people in difficulty due to schizophrenia). After completing a 12-week training program, outreach workers conduct weekly peer support visits and phone calls to program recipients who are in hospital or living in isolation.
